Foundation Awards Rosenberg Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI) Scholarships

Each year the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) sponsors a five-day leadership institute for fraternity and sorority members. Since its inception in 1990, UIFI has challenged nearly 3,000 fraternity and sorority students representing almost 250 different universities and colleges, and 115 different Greek affiliations to make a difference in the Greek communities.

UIFI is a principle-centered approach to creating change within a Greek community. Lessons learned at UIFI will be beneficial for a lifetime. It helps participants identify the timeless principles through which they can define themselves individually and organizationally. It then helps participants recognize how they can act out these principles by honing important life skills in areas such as leadership, group dynamics, service, and organizational change and development.
Dads & Lads Event Worth Repeating at Michigan State

The weekend of July 11-13, the Michigan State chapter of Triangle Fraternity held an event called Dads and Lads. By the name of it you can tell that brothers invited their fathers to the fraternity house for a day of projects. This not only improved their house it also gave the fathers a chance to see what their sons are a part of and who they hang out with, for more than half the year.

During the weekend, they put in some new kitchen cabinets, built a bench in their basement, and cleaned up the outside of their house. This is the first of what they hope to be an annual event. Just so the dads did not feel like they were only there to work, their sons provided a BBQ lunch with cheeseburgers and brats.

NIC MOURNS THE LOSS OF FRATERNITY ADVOCATE

In August, the interfraternal community lost perhaps its strongest advocate in elected national office. Ohio Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, one of the great champions of today's Greek movement, died as a result of a hemorrhage suffered Tuesday. NIC President and CEO Pete Smithhisler added, "I will miss her joyful spirit that she shared each time she stepped to the microphone at the congressional receptions. The great many of us privileged to be with her on Capitol Hill will miss the particular energy and excitement she alone added to those gatherings."

The NIC and its member fraternities extend condolences to the family and friends of our sincere friend and partner Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

At the NIC Annual Meeting in 2007, Congresswoman Tubbs Jones received the NIC Silver Medal. One of the Conference's highest honors, the medal recognizes significant leadership for causes that advance the highest ideals of fraternalism.

United Way & Triangle

In many parts of the country the United Way is gearing up their fall fund drive. Companies are selecting team leaders, planning interesting events and functions, and having their employees fill out their pledge cards.

Many local United Ways offer a donor choice program. This program allows donors to pick the charity that will be the beneficiary of their pledge. In some cases Triangle can be the named charity. Each local United Way has a different policy concerning this, so check with your companies United Way coordinator.
