Triangle Brother wins 2nd Quest 250

Now that Eric Butcher has conquered almost both ends of the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race in the last two years, his next goal is to see the entire route at once.

The Fairbanks musher won the Quest 250 for the second straight year Monday, conquering the leg from Fairbanks to Circle last year and this year's interrupted run from Whitehorse to Pelly. He's ready for the challenge of the full-sized 1,000-mile race, but realizes he'll need to expand his kennel.

"I need some more dogs," Butcher said shortly after finishing Monday night. "Nine dogs just isn't going to cut it."

Butcher covered the abbreviated trail, which was shortened by 79 miles when officials decided to truck teams from Braeburn Lodge to Carmacks to avoid dangerous trail conditions, finished the race in 29 hours and 40 minutes. Ellie Claus of Chitina, a former Junior Quest champion, was second in 30:13, Jim Oehlschlaeger of Cincinnati, Ohio, was third (31:57), Whitehorse's Gerry Willomitzer was fourth (35:29) and Rod Boyce of Two
Rivers (36:55) rounded out the top five.

Chapter Spotlight
This fall, the Armour Chapter celebrates a very special anniversary. On October 19, 2003, they will host a special celebration to honor the 25th anniversary of the arrival of Bob Patten ar01 to Triangle.
Since 1978, Bob has steadily become a permanent fixture in the lives of the Triangle men and the chapter house. It is very hard to put into words the significance of the impact that Bob has had on the brothers, pledges, family members, and friends in his twenty-five years of service. Alumni return to the house and the first person they wish to see is Bob. His unique ability to connect with everyone he interactswith and his ability to share his views on a variety of topics gives the younger men in the house a completely different perspective on life and the interactions that come with it.

Triangle Education Foundation Shareholders Meeting Announced

Want to learn more about the Triangle Education Foundation? Do you have burning questions such as: how are the Foundation assets invested, what is the money spent on, who are the leaders, and most importantly how does it help my chapter?

All of these questions and more are going to be answered at the Foundation's first ever Shareholders Meeting held in conjunction with the Triangle National Convention this August in Louisville, Kentucky. Although the Foundation is a non-profit corporation and technically doesn't have shareholders, the board feels all brothers of Triangle are shareholders in the organization.

Each member of Triangle has a vested interest in the future of Triangle and the involvement the Foundation can play in supporting their chapter. As such, it is the duty of the Foundation to provide current and detailed information to its "shareholders" on a regular and timely basis.

Everyone is invited to attend this historic meeting. Mark you calendars now - August 1, 2003 at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM. No need to RSVP, just show up. If you have any questions please contact the Foundation's Chief Operating Officer, Scott Bova at (317) 705-9803 or at sbova@triangle.org.
